Who Knows Best?

Who Knows Best?

The other day I was thinking about how my life has panned out (so far) and I was laughing to myself because when I was younger I had these strong ideas about who I was going to be and what job I would have.

Until the end of my first year at uni I was completely dedicated to my plan of becoming a Barrister (a specialist court room lawyer for my American friends) and I met many other people on the same course who wanted to do the same thing (and most have gone on to achieve it). What was making me laugh, as I thought about those plans I had for my future, was that I really thought I knew best … but as always – I didn’t.

I believe strongly that the universe has a plan for us and try as we might, we can only deter from our path to our own discomfort. I always knew what I was supposed to do with my life, well the gist anyway … I would be working with energy, speaking in public, writing, training and rejoicing in the magic that is all around us. But as a teenager I tried to rebel and forge my own path playing to my academic strengths and love of a good debate. It’s laughable really because from everything I know about being a Barrister I wouldn’t have enjoyed it so even if I had followed my plan, I’d have probably given it up as soon as I could.

So this post is a personal reminder to myself that the universe knows best… and so we may aswell sit back and enjoy the journey. I for one will continue to focus on my gifts and be fully present in who I am and who I’ve always been. And I’m pretty sure as I read that back, it’s probably good advice for most of us.

Out of interest… what did you want to be when you were a teenager?
