Let your light shine

Let your light shine

Someone reminded me recently of a wonderful quote; actually it’s my favourite quote.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

(Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”, Harper Collins, 1992. From Chapter 7, Section 3])

What was so wonderful about hearing it again was: I was doing it, in that exact moment. I felt inspired and excited and proud that I’d let my light shine. Later that day, I went to a school reunion and had the option of telling people I was a corporate trainer and coach (which was true) or telling them that I’m a healer, psychic and coach. Every so often I still resist sharing my more unique nature but because I was inspired by this quote and because I’d had to keep so many secrets about who I was when I was at school, I decided I would just tell them the truth and expect nothing in return. Thankfully the response was overwhelming and heart warming but I didn’t do it for that reason – I did it because I wanted to be true to my light.

I know those moments don’t happen every day and most days we hold back on sharing our brilliance. So make the choice to let your own light shine today and experience the glorious expression of your truth.

Allow your light shine today, for a minute or for the whole day…
